A GUIDE FOR PHOTOGRAPHING COUPLES
I am a very romantic person, photographing couples in love is probably one of the most fulfilling parts of my photography; it just melts my heart seeing all that love they share together whether it’s the Bride & Groom at a wedding I’m shooting or an Engagement Couple it could even be just a random couple out on the street.
A while ago I was in Italy (yes I’m Italian!) photographing my grandnieces Christening and while I was there at some point out of the corner of my eye I spotted my parents sitting on a bench at the local bus stop, they were taking a rest while waiting for family a member to drive them to the restaurant. I very rarely see them together outdoors and on this day of a family celebration, they looked very relaxed, it was here where I started my project “photographing couples” with my mum and dad.
It took a while to convince them though to pose for me but finally my dad put his arm around my mum and unexpectedly planted a kiss on her cheek! It lasted only a second, but I felt so happy that I could capture it in camera and now it will stay in our family’s memories forever.
So when you are looking for ideas for photographing couples why not use your family or friends as examples, for you know who the ones that are deeply in love are and have that something special between them. By coming from this direction, the chances are good that you will capture those magic moments.

Love on the Streets
Love is in abundance especially when we make a determined effort in finding it and when we do isn’t it wonderful. When we can, my partner (another great photographer) and I often go photographing the streets. One of the things we mutually look forward to is capturing the love by photographing couples we find there. It could be easily on any street corner, bus/train stop or even at a cafe; it is not really a matter of where love is but more so of when.
Finding and photographing couples in love on the streets can be very rewarding as it’s one of the most romantic settings you’ll witness especially in the right locations. All those who have been in love know the magic I speak of and the emotions (admit it you have been there too!) Two parts, two hearts beating and meeting as one it shows the world that love really is the key and if you don’t believe me just look around you

- Stations, / Bus Stops,
- Outside Cinemas/Venues
- Cafes
- Plazas
A friend recently asked me what I say to couples who see me photographing them. “Well! I said, I always tell them the truth, which is that to me the most important thing in the world is love. That wherever I see it I try to photograph it because it gives me hope.” I then show them the picture and ask if I can send them a copy giving them my card and contact details, this has in the past resulted in getting work for portraits, engagements/family events.
